a snipet of memories, to jot down for later. i wonder when your kids grow up if you feel the same way. the snip pets (is that one word) certainly change. lux's school break and we skied all day friday with her at whistler, in the deep snow, snowing and cold, laughing and wondering how the hell is she so grown up and how the hell are we skiing with her. me in front, her in the middle, geoffrey behind, snow separating us, hearing her giggles "mom speed up", me "too many moms honey call me claire" her "okay claire, speed up, but lets wait here for dad" me "okay we'll wait but just ski ahead of me if i am going too slow". her, skies on, boots on, helmet on, jumping on her binding to get onto the seat of the gondola, us helping her, her "i know how to do this" us thinking, yeah but thats what we do, we do up boots, put on skies, lift you to the gondola bench, put on your gloves, adjust your goggles...but slowly you stop doing that, and its heartbreaking a bit, but also overwhelming and nice and glimpses of her older "speed up claire, you're going to slow". i better be a hell of a better skier next year and the year after, i don't think there is much hope for g.
he, he is growing too, potty trained, out of his pack and play "hi mom, hi dad" at 6 am, too early for him, he's an up at 8 am sort of guy, go back to bed huxley, but "i NEED to go downstairs", me/us "no you don't huxley you NEED to go back to bed", geoff sleeping in the twin bed next to his pack and play while he (huxley not geoff, geoff gave up sucking his fingers sometime ago, while before i ever met him) sucked his fingers and watched him sleep for 2 hours while i slept soundly and geoff slept soundly and lux colored in her bed, waiting for a sign, a word to get up. and him with his "just in case crackers" named after nanny rachel packs crackers "just in case you get hungry" - he says "rachel do you have the just in case crackers".
funny i think there were a million other moments that i can't remember, funny things said and done, but just know that there were.
geoff and i had the most fabulous dinner, perfectly prepared, perfect wine, food, hockey game (on the tube), dinner, company, in a snow storm, parked in a snow bank.
i don't spell check this shit - clearly.
