Schlepped it through the wetlands and UW sports facilities that separate us from President Barack Obama to see him this am at UW. Geoffrey and I left the house without breakfast or coffee, or hats or gloves to join ten of thousands of other Washington State residents to have the chance of a glimpse and listen to him, there were few (literally few) others on our walk down there and we sort of stupidly thought it would be the two of us, plus the "few" other retired folks that walked with us. But no, this guy commands a crowd!
I didn't realize the facility would be so actually small and intimate and we were very close to him and it was wild. He is small in real life, very slim. And he seems as he does on TV, a sort normal, funny, approachable guy that has 2 young kids and a nice wife but unlike us, he has a drive, an eloquence, a presence, a passion, an intelligence but mostly a vision of what a great nation this is and could be.
It was cold and windy waiting and I was without food and coffee and pretty cranky and mostly wanted to leave and go home and fire up my latte maker and have a piece of toast, but we didn't - WHEN else do you get the chance to schlep it through the wetlands and UW sports facilities to see the one of the most iconic president this country has had.

So glad that you made the effort. What a wonderful thing to see such an eloquent and thoughtful speaker. I am jealous.
