we had lux's first parent teacher conference this am, and it was a success. i think both geoffrey and i were nervous, i'm not sure, we had NO indication to feel that she wasn't doing fantastic. but she is, doing fantastic, both academically and socially etc. teacher had absolutely no concerns, she participates well and appropriately; can be placed next to any child and is kind, respectful and thoughtful to everyone; academically she has taken off since the start of the year and well on her way to being a proficient reader and writer and seems to do very well at math and science. she is keen, enthusiastic and happy each day, and trys her very best at everything.
we also heard from the teacher that the standards at lux's school are higher than most of the school's in seattle's northeast quadrant and by the end of the year kindergarteners are well on their way to have success in grade one and beyond. for the time i have spent in her class i am blown away by the students, not only lux, but most of them are focused and really doing great stuff.
i'm delighted, she has had some tough days after school, hard to gauge why, its an amazing long day, she has a gal or two in her class that she has a difficult time navigating, and the teacher confirmed this for us. i really expected at this point in the year it was about settling in, but lux has taken it beyond settling in and is truly engaged and learning.
not sure why i'm surprised, she continues to amaze me with her spirit and enthusiasm for things, well done lux!!

Sunday girl outing!
Some kindy pals and daughters had a girls outing on sunday and took the little ladies to Disney on Ice. A girlfriend secured the tickets, as usual I'm not one to either think of these things or get it together to actually get the tickets! We kept it as surprise up until we took our seats only to see Disney characters skating in the Everett hockey arena (I now know where the Everett WHL team plays to take Lux to a game!). I'm not entirely sure Lux really knew what it was, she has never seen figure skating and was NOT the least bit interested in the Disney characters when we took her to Disney, but she loved it, loved the company of her friends, loved the crowd, the popcorn and licorice, the pizza lunch before hand, the mini van ride to and from the event, and I think loved being with mom.
I sure loved sharing it with her and watching her take it all in, grabbing my hand and whispering in my ear (well yelling) at the parts she liked and the parts that she didn't.
Here are some snaps from my friend's camera.

Unscripted
Mommy: "Huxley what does a bear say?" Huxley: "wawa (translation = water)"; Mommy: "Huxley what does mommy say?" Huxley: "no no no no" (no translation necessary)
the best part, his lips curled up into a smile, he knew as Lux calls it - he made a funny!
Smart buggar, 18 months and he has my devilish sarcasism. that or he really does associate bears with water and mommy with no no no's!

i'm not saying anything
about the midterms elections, i could say alot, but would likely offend everyone i know (well all the americans that is), and mostly not saying anything since others more eloquent and knowledgeable than me - and nearly ALL of this nation are saying lots and i'm attempting to follow them their commentary. but either way i'm pretty perplexed, concerned, deeply disappointed...
but if that douche bag sarah palin runs for president in 2012 (like geoffrey predicts could happen) i'm not sure what i'll do.
